For 2027 I’ve decided to reduce the annual membership price to £10.
WHY MEMBERSHIP & WHAT DOES IT GET YOU?
Firstly, membership gives you a minimum guaranteed 48-hour priority booking window before digs are opened more widely.
Your membership gives you:
✅ Access to just under 100 digs per year
✅ Around 40% of our digs consistently being on new land year on year
✅ A minimum 48-hour priority booking window
✅ Priority access to capped-number digs
✅ Regular Thursday and Sunday digs throughout the year
✅ 48-hour priority on new land, including Saturday events
✅ Optional access to our private Facebook members group
WHY DO WE CAP NUMBERS?
I’ve never been one for putting 100+ people onto a piece of land, and there are two main reasons for that.
Firstly, once numbers start exceeding 60+, events can fall into a different category and may require separate permissions from the local authority rather than simply having the private landowner’s permission.
Secondly, and probably more importantly, it’s not what the majority of our members want.
Through feedback over the years, many people simply don’t enjoy detecting on land with huge numbers of people.
Keeping North Detecting Events to a strong core membership, with sensible numbers on our Thursday and Sunday digs, has worked well.
Again, through your feedback, I’ve been asked not to change that, and I don’t intend to.
The aim for 2027 isn’t to become the biggest detecting group or cram as many people as possible onto every field.
It’s to continue providing regular digs, new land, sensible numbers and a fair opportunity for our members to get booked on.
WHAT ABOUT SATURDAYS?
Through the summer months we usually have a glut of available land, particularly once harvest gets underway.
That’s why you’ll often see me add Saturday digs which are open to non-members as well.
However, if a Saturday dig is on NEW LAND, the members’ 48-hour priority booking window still applies before it is opened up to everyone else.
HOW DOES MEMBERSHIP WORK?
When you purchase your membership through the website, the booking system automatically recognises you as a member for the relevant membership period.
As long as you’re logged into your account, you’ll be able to see and book any available dig during the members’ priority period.
You don’t pay for each dig when you book.
Payment isn’t required until the day of the event, so there’s no money tied up in advance.
On the day of each dig you can simply choose to pay by cash or card.
After purchasing your membership, you will also be sent a separate message containing a link to join the North Detecting Events private Facebook members group.
The Facebook group is completely optional and isn’t required to use your membership.
All digs are posted on the North Detecting Events website, and the website is where bookings are made.
The private Facebook group is simply an additional place for members to keep up with posts, finds, discussions and other group information.
INSURANCE – IMPORTANT
Every person attending a North Detecting Events dig must have valid metal detecting insurance.
NCMD, FID and AMDS are all accepted forms of insurance and can be purchased separately.
Insurance is NOT included with your North Detecting Events membership.
When attending your first dig after joining, please show me your current dated proof of insurance.
This is a requirement for everyone attending our digs.
BOOKING & CANCELLATION RULES
If you book a dig and can no longer attend, please cancel your place at least 48 hours before the start time of the event.
This is particularly important on capped digs where another member may be waiting for a space.
Obviously, genuine emergencies and unexpected circumstances are different and will always be treated reasonably.
If someone books a place and doesn’t attend without the courtesy of cancelling, they’ll initially receive a polite reminder about the booking rules.
For repeat offenders who miss two or more booked digs, a 30-day priority booking cool-off period will apply.
You won’t lose your membership. You’ll simply lose access to the members’ priority booking window for 30 days.
It’s not about punishing anyone. It’s about being fair to other members who may have wanted that place, particularly when a dig is capped and showing as full.
2027 – KEEPING IT SIMPLE
The membership has been reduced to just £10 for the full year.
The idea remains the same:
Regular digs.
Plenty of new land.
Sensible numbers.
Priority for members.
No paying for digs weeks in advance.
